Chelsea is on the verge of completing a significant transfer, with the club agreeing to a €63 million deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ winger, Pedro Neto. This move, reported by Fabrice Hawkins and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, will see the Portuguese attacker join the Blues.
Neto,
who had been linked with several top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City,
Liverpool, and Tottenham, is set to move to Stamford Bridge. The agreement
involves a €60 million base fee with an additional €3 million in add-ons. The
23-year-old is expected to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea and will
undergo his medical soon.
The
transfer comes as a surprise to many, given that Chelsea's focus this summer
was thought to be on adding a right-footed winger, whereas Neto is left-footed.
However, his versatility allows him to play on the left, making him a valuable
addition to Chelsea's squad.
Wolverhampton,
in response, is reportedly targeting Ajax winger Carlos Forbes as a potential
replacement for Neto.
